Market research on electric vehicle perceptions
Volkswagen Group Ireland conducted a survey of over 2,000 of our car owners (Volkswagen, Skoda and CUPRA) in Ireland that included more than 700 owners of EVs and over 1,600 owners of conventional petrol or diesel models.
The results show:
Majority of People (85%) who own EVs are very happy with their cars and are going to stick with EVs
People understand that EVs are the future of car ownership and many non-EV owners believe they will own an EV in the future. (50% within the next 10 years)
Perceptions of non-EV owners radically different to the actual experience of owners.
Key findings:
- People who own EVs are very happy with them.
- Motorists who don’t own an EV yet, believe they will own one in the medium or long-term.
- Perceptions of non-EV owners radically different to the actual experience of owners.
- This perception gap was also evident when non-EV owners were asked to describe what owning an EV would be like.
- EV owners and non-EV owners drive the same overall distance each year.
- A high proportion of people – both EV owners and non-owners - have space for a charger at their home
- EV owners want more and better public charging units.
